About Us

Hanwell Community Church, Inc. was originally formed in 1989 as Hanwell Baptist Church and had its first meetings in the Starlight Village Lodge. The present church structure was completed in 1993.

The founding pastor was Rev. Laurie D. Fenerty who had a vision for a church to be planted on the Hanwell Road in its present location. Upon his departure, he was followed by Rev. Donald J. Burke as interim pastor and then Rev. Perry W. Hanley before the present pastor arrived, Rev. Dr. Mike McDonald.

The church is a member of the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada through its membership with the York Association, and ultimately belongs to Canadian Baptist Ministries within the Baptist World Alliance.

Our mission statement is that of Jesus as found in the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-2 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Going hand-in-hand with that statement the main objective is in line with the Great Commandment in Matthew 22:37-39 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’"

Our worship style is relaxed with any one of four different worship teams leading on any given Sunday with a range from contemporary to traditional in style. However, our main emphasis is on Scripture, as we strongly encourage members and adherents to become active in reading God’s Word on a daily basis. From that should flow a desire for prayer, service, fellowship and further discipleship, as well as a desire to reach others in the name of Jesus.

We are governed by two boards: Deacons and Trustees, which usually meet together once per month. We have Sunday morning and weekday programs for children and youth and informal Bible study groups for adults meet in homes during the week, in addition to our Sunday teaching time.

New members are always welcomed and encouraged to get involved within the life of the church.
