Missions

As believers, saved by Grace, and with hearts that are transformed for His Glory -- we are called to follow Jesus by loving others the way He has loved us.

Matthew 25:35-40 reads:
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Thankfully, we live in a part of the world that has been abundantly blessed by the Lord. Few of us, if any, have ever truly experienced hunger or worried about putting clothes on our backs. Living in a relatively small city, it's easy to think that this type of suffering and hardship is just a big city problem. We think it can't exist in Fredericton - but it does.

As a volunteer, Mavis Doucette works daily with people throughout Fredericton and the surrounding areas that are homeless, have fallen on hard times, or have no money to pay for food or electricity. In the words of our Lord, these are the least of our brothers. They are in dire need of our love and support, and they are right in our own backyard. If our hearts are truly transformed for His glory, then we cannot turn away from their cry for help.

By working on a personal level, Mavis is able to identify the individual needs of every person she helps. Hanwell-Cares is an online news group with the sole purpose of communicating these needs to those of us who are willing and able to help. By following the updates to this newsgroup, we can respond quickly and efficiently to meet these needs.
